Why is a Guru’s love greater than the love of a thousand mothers!

In this chapter, I will be narrating how a Guru’s love is greater than a mother’s love for her child and how Saibaba had the same love towards Hemadpant.

In the year 1916, Dhabolkar alias Hemad retired from the Government Service. However, the pension that was settled for him was insufficient to maintain his family. So, on the Guru Purnima day of that year, Hemadpant went to Shirdi with other devotees. There Mr Anna Chinchanikar, of his own accord, prayed to Saibaba for Dhabolkar as follows – “Please look kindly on him, the pension he gets is quite insufficient, his family is growing, give him some other appointment, remove his anxiety and make him happy.”

Saibaba replied – “Dhabolkar will get some other job, but now he should serve me and be happy. His plates will always be full, and never will they be empty so long he lives. If he always seeks my protection with complete faith in me, his troubles will end. His attention should turn towards me and avoid the company of all irreligious, wicked people, atheists and have abandoned virtuous demeanour. Moreover, one should not repulse or reject anyone contemptuously – be it a dog, a pig or a fly. For, without some special bond from the previous birth, no one comes to us. Henceforth, Hemadpant should serve me with devotion, be meet and humble towards all and worship me with heart and soul. If he does this, he will attain the inexhaustible treasure of eternal happiness.

The philosophical significance of the Motherly love of a Guru – Everybody knows how a cow loves her infant’s calf. Her udder is always full, and when the calf wants milk and nuzzles at the udder, it flows the milk unceasingly. Similarly, a human mother knows the wants of her child even before the child is hungry and feeds her child in time. The mother also takes special care while dressing her child. The child knows nothing about it, but the mother’s joy knows no bounds when she sees her child beautifully dressed and adorned. In the Gospel of Shri Ramakrishna – Ramakrishnaji has explained how a mother cooks different dishes to suit the stomachs of her different children. Assume she has five children. If there is a fish to cook, she prepares various dishes from it – Fish Pulao, fried fish, pickled fish, and so on to suit their different tastes and power of digestion.

Similarly, only the Guru, the ‘mother’, knows what his children love and digest. Therefore, the Guru will bestow only that which is suitable for their children. The same is the case in spiritual too. The Guru puts you on the path that is best suited for you and confers upon you only that knowledge you can learn and imbibe. Only the Guru mother knows what is good for you since he alone knows your past, present and future. Therefore, don’t ask for your insatiable desires to be fulfilled, be in the material or spiritual world. What has to come to you will anyways come to you at God’s appointed timing. So likewise, the spiritual knowledge will open up only at the perfect timing and not when you want it. All you can do is surrender to the divine will of your God and never question or doubt your SadGuru.

RajShree Ma is eternally indebted to her KrsnaMa, whose love is unparalleled and beyond any measures and expressions of the words. Our KrsnaGuruji looks after this entire universe as his children alone. We are part of the Vasudev Kutumbakam (Lord Shree Krsna’s family). Our Guruji never differentiates his love for his children. He bestows upon them graciously everything required from them to live a good life, much more than what they might have ever desired for in their life.

With the Grace of my KrsnaGuruji, I have been able to pen this most wonderful story from Sai SatCharita in a string of words. Thank you for reading, and do watch out for my next blog about “Rohilla’s Story.
